The Big Buddha
The most breathtaking of monuments can be found at Lantau Island. The Tian Tan Buddha sits 268 steps high. It symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and religion. The Buddha's right hand is raised to remove affliction and the left hand rests on his knee to represet happiness. As soon as you arrive on the island, the Buddha greets you from the sky.
I had to stop for a snack at the Vegetarian Cafe next to Po Lin Monastery.

The best way to get to and from the Big Buddha is by lift. The views are nothing short of spectacular.

Little town of Sha Tin
I passed through the quiet little village of Pai Tau to find 10,000 Buddhas Monastery. It was interesting seeing life outside the city limits.
